Max Lucado has done it again! Fearless is a masterfully written journey through the fears that humans face. In the course of the book, Max shows his readers the only way to be truly fearless. There are so many things that people fear. The economy is bad, things like swine flu are sweeping the nation, carrying its fear with it. In each situation, Max shows that those who believe in God need fear nothing but Him. He likens fear and this life to the laboring pains of a woman giving birth. The pain is great, but the reward is better. This life is hard, but heaven is worth it all (2 Cor 4:17).
The "secret" to being fearless actually fear of Jesus Christ. The story of Jesus' transfiguration is paramount to the solution of our fearfulness. Jesus' three closest disciples put Jesus on the same level as Moses and Elijah by suggesting that they build three tabernacles. God the Father corrected them by telling them that Jesus and only Jesus was worthy of worship and adoration. Jesus is in a league all His own. When they saw Jesus shining like the sun, the feared him. They trembled and fell on their faces. After they learned to fear Jesus as they should, the disciples faced indescribably fearful things, yet they faced those things with the courage and fearlessness that fearing Jesus alone brings. Max advocates this kind of fear so that we can be fearless of the things in this world.
